WARNING: Do not try to color your own hair at home (even if you buy the hair coloring from your own trustworthy hairdresser)!!!! Hee, Hee, Hee...I can laugh about it now, but during the middle of my "hair emergency", as I referred to it, all I could do was cry. So, here is my story. As most of you know, I am a blonde (or was), but that is not my natural hair color. My hair is naturally a brown color, but for the past seven years or so, I have had my hair dyed blonde. For awhile now, I have been contemplating coloring my hair back to a darker color in order to save some money; so, since I am staying at home with the kids and not getting that extra income, I thought now would be a great time. Last Thursday, I called my hairdresser and told her that I was ready to go back to my origonal hair color in order to save some money, and she said that she would sell me some hair dye, so that I could go home and do it myself. I thought that would be no problem, considering I had colored my hair twice before and it turned out fine. Well, to make a long story as short as I can, late that evening, I colored my hair, and, when it was all said and done, I had BLACK hair. Yes, my dear friends and family, you read it right....BLACK! I tried to stay calm, but the more I looked at it the more I couldn't stand to look at myself in the mirror. Was that even me! My sweet husband was trying to console me and tell me that it looked "fine." What?! I didn't want my hair to look "fine." I wanted it to look great! Also, the more I looked at my very dark hair, the more I noticed that I had missed some pieces during the dying process, and those pieces were much lighter than the rest of my hair. Needless to say, I got absolutely no sleep that night. I kept thinking, "What in the world have I done! I don't have the extra money to go get this fixed." The next morning, my kids had to take a double take at me to make sure that I was still their same mommy, who, when they had gone to bed the night before, had had blonde hair. I cancelled all of my plans for that day, and called my hairdresser to see if she could help. She didn't seem too panicked about it, and I went to see her that afternoon. Once I arrived at the salon, I asked her if she could lighten it for me, and she said that all she could do is fix the spots that I had missed, but that was it. Yes, I was devastated. I know...it is only hair, but I wanted to be able to face the world again! I didn't want to have to hibernate at my house forever! My hairdresser was able to lighten my hair one shade lighter, but you couldn't really tell any difference. I was so disappointed. I knew it was fixable, I just got the feeling she didn't really care, nor did she want to spend the time helping me fix it. Before I left the salon, I told my hairdresser that I didn't like the color, and she told me to go home and wash it with some antibacterial soap and call her in a few days. She assured me that I would love it! Yea right! After spending some time crying and feeling sorry for myself over my hair, I decided to go visit my husband at the football field. He was there getting ready for the school's Friday night football game. Ok...that was a very bad idea. Nobody recognized me, including my own dad! That is bad! Well, the only one who hadn't seen me yet was my mom; so, I decided to stop by and see her. She told me I looked like Morticia off the Addam's Family (minus the long hair)! Very funny, Mom! Well, after explaining the whole ordeal to my mom, she so graciously decided she would take me to JcPenny's Saturday morning to get my hair fixed (even my dad agreed that she should take me). What an awesome mom and dad I have! I prayed so hard all the way up to my hair appointment that morning, hoping that I would get someone who could fix my black hair. God knew exactly what He was doing! You see, He cares about things as small as our "hair emergencies." I was able to get a terrific hairdresser to fix my hair. She listened to me and worked for over four hours to get my hair color brown. Her name is Vickie, and she did a great job! I owe a big thanks to my mom, too. She spent half her Saturday sitting with me at the salon. Thank you so much, Mom! Looking back, I have learned some lessons. Don't ever dye your hair another color without looking at some hair swatches first, so you know what you are getting yourself into. Oh, and by the way, unless you are a professional, I wouldn't recommend dying your hair at home. Well, I know this was a long story, but I hope you got a good laugh out of it! As you can see above, I posted before and after pictures, but, really, the pictures don't do it justice. Thats all for now (lol)! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Oh my goodness, Girl!!! What a crazy story! I will learn from you and not ever try to color my own hair! It is hard to tell from the pics but I bet it looked "fine!" :) ha ha! That's so strange that no one recognized you--what a weird feeling! SOOO glad you got it fixed. I tell my AWANA first graders all the time that God cares about everything--even parking spots and lost toys! Anyway, thanks for the story!!!
Oh, and by the way, I love the brown hair--very cute!!
I am so glad that it is brown, it looks awesome...I am sorry that you had to go through all that, I wouldn't have recognized you either!! Love you!
WOW! I am cracking up but mostly bc I've been there done that. Back before kids I tried to go from blonde to brown at home and ended up with green hair! It was more fixable than yours though. =) Its so cool that God cares about our hair. I've prayed for hairdressers and hair help before too. =) Anyway, I think your new hair looks really cute though. I just had mine professionally darkened too and am still getting used to it. I can't imagine it turned black!!!I'm so glad everything turned out alright.
